Whisper is a pseudonymous space for honest conversation and peer support. Safety tooling runs alongside privacy so people can vent without doxxing themselves.
The problem
Anonymous networks attract harassment when moderation is reactive only. Mental-health adjacent topics need escalation paths without breaking anonymity norms. Feeds optimized for outrage destroy trust in vulnerable communities.
How we solved it
We designed topic rooms with norms pinned at entry and lightweight reputation for helpful contributors. AI-assisted classifiers flag self-harm, hate, and sexual content for review queues with human override. User-controlled anonymity levels limit what metadata is shown by default. Reporting flows are one-tap with optional context to speed moderator decisions. Rate limits and new-account throttles reduce brigading. Crisis resources surface contextually when classifiers cross sensitive thresholds. Encrypted transport and minimal retention policies align engineering defaults with the product promise.
